NEW UK BREED RECORD IN
BITCHES
CH LORANKA'S
SHERRIE BABY
It was a great start to the year, with plenty to celebrate. Lorraine Hughes and her tricolour, Ch Loranka's Sherrie Baby won the Bitch CC at Boston show and entered Cavalier History books by becoming the Breed's Top Bitch with 29 CCs to her credit. The record was held until last week by the blenheim, Ch Ricksbury Royal Temptress with 28 and before that Ch Lymrey Top Of The Pops with 20. Ch Keyingham Branwell with 42 CCs is still Top Male as well as the current holder of the Breed Record. In Tricolour bitches "Sherrie" has overtaken Ch Pamedna Touch of Fant-tc who was awarded 16 CCs and also the male, Ch Aloysius of Sunninghill who has been in the top tri spot since 1960 with 19 CCs
"SHERRIE" is 4 years old, by Ch Lorankas Enchanting out of Loranka's Cherished Moments and to reach the dizzy heights of Top Bitch is quite an achievement but even more so with a tricolour - the arguably, most challenging of the four colours when trying to "tick all the boxes".
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO TEAM LORANKA.

UK SHOW NEWS
Boston All Breeds Ch Show is the first on the UK Calendar and as it is held in the first week in January, it normally struggles with low temperatures and horrible wintry driving conditions. This can discourage people from making the trip. This year, we needn't have worried, as the weather was unusually mild with daytime temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius. Judging the entry was Bob Payne (Catemmsal) doing dogs and Marian Mynott (Honeybet) doing bitches. It was a great start to the year with plenty to celebrate. In the bitch ring, Lorraine Hughes and Ch Loranka's Sherrie Baby were winning another CC (and Best of Breed) and making Breed History whilst in the dog ring, Dennis and Tina Homes had plenty to smile about when their home bred Blenheim boy, Leogem Marcello won his 3rd CC thereby gaining his Champion title. He is 3 years old by Ch Pascavale Jamie out of Ch Leogem Minuet, so bred in the purple! He won his first CC at UK Toy Dog in 2010 from Shirley Williams (Johnasta) and his second came at Birmingham 2011 from Tracy Jackson (Amantra). The Reserves went to Pascavale Bailey and Montcolly Dottie Harana. Maibee McVitie took Best Puppy.
Cavaliers and their handlers were also doing well in another part of the show. For the second year running, Alison Walker and Daniel Korolevsky Iosif ShCM (seen here) won their class in the 40 years plus Adult Handling class, Leila Tarabad took the 25-40 age class with Khatibi Nick is in a Twist and Melissa Phillips was the winner of the 12/16 class with her Tillymist Sheez Innocence.. The judge Shannon Roberts was certianly impressed by our Cavalier handlers! Well done girls!
CAVALIER CAKES - NO
COOKING!
This cake was made for someone who had recently lost one of their Cavaliers and was intended as a gift for the remaining dogs. It included a Cavalier plush, a treat jar, gourmet dog treats, a luxurious faux fur dog bed, a key chain, a bookmark and lapel pin, and a copy of the poem "Rainbow Bridge".
Sue Dawber (Simanbeck) has been really ill and spent time in hospital. It is likely that she will be away from the shows for quite a while and am sure that a get well card, sent to 4 Abbey Drive, Orrell. Wigan. Lancs. WN5 8RW, might cheer her up.
QUEEN'S HONOUR LIST
2011 was a memorable one for Liss conservationist and campaigner and Cavalier owner Margaret Paren – and this year couldn’t have got off to a better start. She has been awarded the OBE medal in the New Year Honours list in recognition of her work in helping to set up the South Downs National Park.
She celebrated the news of her OBE
by taking her Cavaliers, Henry and Lucius, for a walk along the Riverside Railway Walk nature reserve – an area which she and her late husband Nigel played a big part in creating.
The reserve is just a few yards from her home in Liss, and fuelled her enthusiasm for conservation.

NEW INTERNATIONAL
CHAMPION
Christian Laguillaumie sends details from the Paris Dog Show 2012 where he handled Esley Mac Gregor des Cavaliers de Corence (above) to become an International Champion (Subject to FCI confirmation).
He won his other CACIBs in Belgium under Bill Moffat (GB), in the Netherlands under Ricky Lochs-Romans (NL), in France from Alix Jauffret (Fr), Bernard Dunglas (Fr) and now finally in Paris from Jerzy Olszewski (Pol). 'Esley' is now 28 months and therefore elegible for the title.
There were 156 Cavaliers entered for judges Michael Leonard (IRL) who did bitches and Jerzy Olszewski (Pol) who did dogs.
Fr Ch Eigue Marine du Clos de l'Arpege (above) (bred by Corinne Delossenidere and owned by Marlène Mouillion) was Best Bitch and Fr Ch Esley Mac Gregor des Cavaliers de Corence (bred by Sandrine Camer and owned by Owner Karine Courtin) was Best Dog.
Claudine Metans, the well known and very experienced French judge, decided Best of Breed and she chose "Eigue Marine", with "Esley" taking Best Opposite.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, OLD BOY
Barbara Taylor (Taybar) lives on the Isle of Wight and writes with news of Taybar Stella who just passed her Kennel Club Bronze Assessment. "Stella", who is 11 months old, is by Ch Miletree Constellation out of my Deranmar Stefanie (KCGC Gold Award). She very strong willed but cheeky with it."
TOY SPANIEL LOVING
DYNASTY
The House of Medici was a political dynasty, a banking family and later a Royal House that first began to gather prominence during the 14th Century. They originated in the Tuscany region in Italy and the Medici Bank was the largest in Europe during the 15th Century, seeing the family gain political power in Florence. Officially they remained simply citizens rather than Monarchs. Toy Spaniels were obviously great favourites, as so many are seen in the paintings with different family members. Here we see a little blenheim with Isabella de Medici in the 1560s.
