Rabbie Burns (1759-1796) was a Scottish poet, largely regarded as Scotland's National Poet and is celebrated worldwide. It is his song Auld Lang Syne that is sung at Hogmanay (last day of the year).

JUST A REMINDER...
.....whilst we here in the UK have had a fairly easy Winter, with less snow than in recent years, in other parts of the Globe it is a different story! Linda Compton lives in Montana and took this photo last week during a winter storm that left them with over 16" of snow. It was the first deep snow her 9 month old puppy "Brit" had seen and she adored it!

She also has 2 RCCs. Reserve bitch was Loranka's Pixie. In dogs, Angelspride Gentleman won the CC from Alex Bubb (Wandris) who gave the Reserve CC to Jordanic Entrepreneur. Best Puppy was Verheyen Angelina.
IS YOUR DOG ANXIOUS?
For many animals, loud noises such as fireworks or thunder can make them fearful and anxious and they may become frantic with excessive panting. These distressing spells can leave them exhausted and difficult to calm down. A product that gets good reviews from Vets and Behaviourists is Thundershirt and might be worth trying out if your Cavalier experiences such a problem.Thundershirt’s gentle, constant pressure has a dramatic calming effect for most dogs if they are anxious, fearful or over-excited. Leah Swatko (Ministik) wrote some useful advice on the subject of fear of storms which appeared in the Royal Spaniels magazine and is worth repeating. "Let me say do not coddle and reassure your phobic dog as she is reading this as approval and validation of her fear. You may have gone too far already so the use of vet prescribed meds is possibly your only chance to get this under a semblance of control. The Thundershirt works, but do put it on her for other times and not just pending storms or she will very quickly learn that shirt = storm = fear response. You can place her in a crate covered over, in a darkened part of your house and play a radio loud enough to act as a white noise cover for the storm. Some dogs learn that when the wind picks up it is indicative of a pending storm, others rain, and yes for some just the flash is the trigger. If any of these are triggers, you can try playing a desensitizing tape of storm sounds at low volume and build it up as the dog become more familiar. This can take several weeks and the use of medications can help through this
learning period."

POISONOUS HANDBAG ITEMS
Human medications- Human pills come in bottles, and the sound of a rattling pill bottle is very similar to the noise some dog toys make. Both over-the-counter and prescriptions drugs can be a problem. Very common painkillers and human doses of prescription drugs for depression can be toxic to pets. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can cause ulcers and kidney failure and are especially dangerous for cats.
Asthma inhalers - If your dog bites into an asthma inhaler, it has the potential to result in acute, life-threatening poisoning. These inhalers contain highly concentrated doses of drugs like albuterol and fluticasone. If a dog punctures an inhaler by biting or gnawing it, she can be exposed to a massive single dose of a powerful drug which can bring on vomiting, agitation, heart arrhythmia, collapse, and ultimately, death.
Artificially sweetened gum and mints -Many ‘sugarless’ gums and mints contain a sugar substitute, xylitol, highly toxic to dogs. Even a small amount of xylitol can result in a dangerous blood sugar crash in canines, and larger amounts can lead to liver failure. Symptoms of xylitol poisoning include vomiting, weakness, collapse, shaking and seizures. In addition to gum, mints and other sugarless sweets, xylitol is commonly found in chewable vitamins, certain prescription drugs, dental hygiene products and nicotine gum
Cigarettes and other products containing nicotine - A small dog can die from ingesting just three cigarettes, depending on the brand? Chewing tobacco is also toxic to dogs and cats, and so are stop-smoking products like nicotine gum.
Signs of nicotine poisoning come on quickly and include elevated heart and respiratory rates, neurological symptoms, loss of bladder or bowel control, tremors, seizures, paralysis and death.
Hand sanitizer - These products, which are used to kill germs, contain lots of alcohol. If your dog were to ingest a small bottle of hand sanitizer, it would be about the equivalent of a shot of spirits. This could cause a severe drop in your pet’s blood sugar, loss of coordination, loss of body temperature, nervous system depression, coma, and death.
