BARNABY BLAZES THE WAY
Barnaby was bred by Kay Finlay, the Secretary of the Northern Ireland CKCS Club and since the article above appeared in the press in 2010, he has become the first dog to be accredited and accepted into the scheme organised by Assistance Dogs Northern Ireland.
GOODNIGHT, POPPY
Some very sad news from Andy Shone (Cobalatino) "Our beautiful Poppy
Ch Korraines Atlantica finally lost her 4 year battle with cancer yesterday. Poppy was such a special little girl as she brought Maxine (Pamedna) and me together and was every inch a lady up to the day she died. She was 12 ½ years old and up to 2 weeks ago still ran up the stairs to bed (2 steps at a time). Poppy was my dog of a lifetime and I am so grateful that Lorraine Crozier allowed me the chance to spend so much time in the presence of this wonderful little girl, who will leave such a huge void in our lives. Unfortunately, I had to make the decision to ease her onto the road to the rainbow bridge, but she is at peace now. No doubt she will be munching on sponge fingers and chasing butterflies. It will be 10 years in March that I brought Poppy to Maxine's Ch. Pamedna Fan-TC for a romantic liaison. Five weeks later I had moved in with Maxine, lock stock and dogs… and the rest is as they say history… So Poppy was a true match-maker. This picture was taken only a few weeks ago."
I remember Poppy with fondness and chance brought us together. Gordon was judging dogs at the Welsh KC in 2002 and Michael Boothroyd had to withdraw at the last minute through illness. I was asked to be his replacement and judge the bitches. My CC winner was Poppy winning her first CC on the day. Her second CC came from Ruth Mochrie at East of England the following year and her third and crowning CC under Tom Mather at Leeds. She also took a fourth CC and BOB under James McQuaid at Bournemouth. Sired by Ch. Sanickro Made by Magic x Korraines Nautical Nancy...... our thoughts go to Andy and Maxine at this sad time.
WHAT YOU LOOKING AT!
Joann Bronowicka sends us this cute photo of Max who is 3 years old meeting Angelo who is 3 weeks old!
Chris Knight writes with sad news "I am sorry to report that my mentor
and long time friend Wendy Wightman, Chasmin Cavaliers, died yesterday in hospital.
Many who lived in the South of England will recall Wendy who was active and successful in the show ring in the 80/90s.
I understand that Wendy's funeral will be on March 9th at New Southgate Crematorium at 12.45pm. There will be a gathering afterwards and the venue has yet to be confirmed.
EVERGREEN HOLLY
Ch. Canalview Lady Holly of CastleMyst recently celebrated her 15th birthday. Devoted owner Dave Wagner who lives in North Carolina writes "My silly girl still thinks she is a puppy jumping up on the bed at night and running around chasing birds! She was the second Cavalier we ever owned and the first that was truly mine. Holly's parents are Am/Can CH Hilarny Larkin' About and Chanctonbury Bye Bye Birdie.
She keeps telling me to take her out to a show, she loved to show, but I think with her lack of restraint she might just give herself a heart attack when she gets excited and jumping all around barking!" Many Happy Returns of the Day, Holly
BE PREPARED
Don't fall foul of the new KC Rule which requires exhibitors to display ID on each cage/carrier at all times (preferably to include their ring number)
has come up with a novel idea...... re-usable cage numbers. You are not allowed to use the exhibit/bench card provided by the Show Society.
You can order just the one, or more if you have several dogs. They can be plain or personalised. The choice is yours.
Simple to use. When you get to the show just lift up the protective cover, write your ring number and an emergency contact number (unless you have chosen to have your emergency number permanently printed on your Cage Card) on the card using the board pen provided then put cover back down. When you need to use it again at the next show, it is just a matter of wiping off the number. SIMPLES! Can be used time after time. It comes with clips for attaching to your cage and a pen.

HAPPY 95th BIRTHDAY
Katie and Belinda
Katie Eldred was 95 years old on 22nd February 2012 and if her name is not familiar to the more recent Cavalier-ites, please let me tell you a little about this grand old lady. She owned Belinda of Saxham who at 7 years old won the Bitch Challenge Certificate and Best in Show at the first Cavalier KCS Club Specialty in 1946 at Stratford Upon Avon under Mrs Jennings of the Plantation affix. Dog CC was the young Daywell Roger. Katie was also Secretary of the Club during 1944/45 towards the end of the Second World War. Now living in Britsh Columbia in Canada, we wish Katie "Many Happy Returns".
Ray Waddington (Spindlepoint) has been
in hospital but is recovering well. We wish him all the best and hope he is back with us in the ring, real soon!
Pam Craig (Aldachell) is taking bookings for Top Barn in August. The camping field and facilities are available from Sunday 5th until Monday 20th August 2012. Can you please get in touch with Pam and let her know when you will be arriving and if an electrical hookup is required. This annual camping-fest is becoming more and more popular with Cavaliers and their owners who enjoy a doggy holiday in their caravans, motorhomes and tents. The shows taking place during the above dates are Paignton - Wednesday 8th August, Bournemouth, Sunday 12th August, Welsh Kennel Club, Friday 17th August, Cavalier Club Open (at Top Barn)- Sunday, 19th August.
There is also, on site, a "friendly" match between Papillons and Cavaliers, a game of Rounders and a Stewarding seminar on Saturday 18th. You can relax and chill with your dogs after a walk over the fields, have a glass of wine, enjoy the chat around the site or if you feel inclined participate in the quiz nights, bingo, karaoke and other entertainment. Lots of laughs, for young and old, are guaranteed if you join the "trailer trash" as they have become affectionately known! It really is a lot of fun for both dogs and their humans.
