Sadly, an exceptional lady and friend of all who knew her, the passing of Shealagh has deeply saddened us all. My sincere sympathy is extended to Bill and every member of the family. Personally, I had tremendous respect for Shealagh. Always a pleasant greeting, never critical of anything said or done. A renowned breeder and exhibitor of quality in the Cavaliers and King Charles Spaniels, endorsed by the outstanding record of success which she achieved through years of careful breeding. A year ago we lost Molly and the untimely passing of Shealagh so soon after, creates a huge void in the show arena, which will be difficult to fill. Heather Wheeler (Drumhaye)

It is with very heavy heart and great sadness that I send my heartfelt condolences to Bill, Tanya, Wendy and family on the loss of Shealagh….a wonderful, generous, kind and very special lady who touched so many..It was certainly a priviledge to have known her and spend time with her on occasions. For me I was touched by her great and very intense love she had for her dogs. She loved them all so unreservedly. They were all her precious babies. I have very fond memories of all those littles Charlies scampering around her ankles in the kitchen wanting her love and affection……they all got some !! and of course I had to have a Charlie ! She had so much to give …and will be sadly missed . Now at peace …she would want the healing of her loved ones to start….A truly lovely lady whose memory will live on in our hearts and in the great legacy she leaves behind. Hugs to Bill & Tanya xx Maxine and Andy …(Pamedna)

I was so deeply saddened to read of the very sad death of such a wonderful lady. I feel personally robbed of a friend but also someone who I admired so much for her un-rivalled knowledge of breeding, showing and judging our wonderful Cavaliers and of course Charlies. I am incredibly lucky to have Shealagh’s wonderful Maibee line in my current two show girls and attribute my success to the magnificent strong genes from Shealagh’s dogs . There is no doubt that she was a clever and insightful breeder and the breed has been dealt yet another body blow from which we will find difficulty in recovering. My deepest condolences to Bill who was the most wonderful nurse to Shealagh ,and her family. God Bless. XX Caroline Ackroyd-Gibson (Toraylac)

My sincere condolences to Bill and all the family at this very sad time. I only really got to know Shealagh a few years ago but the impact she had on me during those few years will remain with me forever. I was truly touched by her gentle kind nature, never boastful of her many successes in the show ring and always willing to share a few golden nuggets of wisdom and experience, to encourage fellow exhibitors and novice breeders such as myself. Shealagh was a wonderful person in so many ways & each of us has our special memories. There is no doubt we are the poorer for her passing. Our thoughts are with Bill, all the family and Tanya. Marie and Kirstie (Cotterlee & Merryoth )
Shealagh was such a “beautiful lady” in every sense of the word and her grace and affection will be sadly missed by all who knew her. It is all so tragic when she was so happy and just at the pinnacle of such a glittering career in both Cavaliers and King Charles. A career which she had worked hard to achieve and one which has touched so many hearts here and in many countries abroad. A career which has been so influential that it will be embedded in the history books forever never to be forgotten. Shealagh should be an inspiration to us all. Sleep easy now my friend and rest in peace. My thoughts are with Bill, Wendy, Tanya and the family at this very sad time and may it help them to know that so many people are grieving with them. If anyone should have written a book it was Shealagh. Her knowledge and experience have been invaluable to so many people from around the world. On saying that I don’t know where she would have found the time. As she was always on the go, with one thing or another. Yet there was always time to help and advise, or comfort whoever was in need. There is one thing I am sure of. Shealagh will live on in an awful lot of our hearts and never be forgotten. Our deepest Sympathy go to Bill and all the Family.Jean & Frank Ballantine
I met Shealagh in 1978 when I bought my first Cavalier from her named Michaelmas Mandy going back into Pargeter breeding, we loved and enjoyed her so much that we bought our second bitch 12months later, and of course then, with Shealagh and Caroline Gatherall's guidance into showing and in a small way breeding our own stock. I have watched Shealagh put a lead on a puppy for the first time and it would walk and stand on a table as if it had been doing it for years, she had a special touch that only comes to special people. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill, Wendy and Andrew and her extended family, rest easy Shealagh I am sure Bill will continue with your hopes and dreams. Esmee and Tony Ellison

The Cavalier and King Charles worlds have been shattered by the loss of a loved, well respected and successful breeder. Her depth of knowledge of both breeds will be hard to equal. Her love as a wife, mother and grand mother will be missed by her family, to whom we send our sincere condolences. Peter and Ruta (MILETREE)
I first met Shealagh in 1978 when I bought my first Cavalier from her named Michaelmas Mandy going back into the Pargeter breeding. We loved and enjoyed her so much that 12 months later we bought our second bitch and then of course with guidance from Shealagh and Caroline Gatherall, into showing and in a very small way breeding. From those early days it was always obvious Shealagh was a special lady, knowing intuitively what was going to do well in the ring, she had a way with her that she could put a lead on a dog for the first time and it would walk and stand on a table as if it had been doing it for years. Her love for her dogs, Charlies and Cavaliers knew no bounds and it was lovely to watch her with a new hopeful. She is going to be greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers go to Bill and her family, rest easy Shealagh I am sure Bill will carry on your hopes and dreams. Esmee Ellison

There are times in recent history where women have left their mark on their passions - in this case, the breeding of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. May Shealagh Waters rest in peace and be long remembered! I met Shealagh Waters at a specialty show in Pennsylvania several years ago. I remember her as a beautiful, stylish woman who commanded the respect of every person in the room. She was an expert in her field. What more could a person want? Gayle Reardon, Deer Haven Cavaliers
No one understands the why's of a loss so great and a life cut short far to soon. Despite her tremendous successes in the dog world, Shealagh was always gracious. She was discerning in her judging but always constructive and kind. She was an enormously talented breeder of both English Toy Spaniels and Cavaliers and the Maibee legacy will long live on in her progeny in both breeds. Shealagh will be sorely missed. She was one very special person and she will never be forgotten by anyone whose life she touched. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and to her closest friends. With heartfelt sympathy, Susan Van Luchene (Briarcrest)
Toni and I have met Shealagh and Bill at homes here in the states and at the many shows they have judged over the years. I had the great good fortune to be able to visit Shealagh and Bill at their home in 2009. I have never been welcomed more warmly, even though we had never met before. It is with great sadness that the world has lost a staunch supporter of the Cavalier and Charlie breeds. Our thoughts must be with Bill, the rest of her family and close friends who will miss her terribly. But we must remember Shealagh for her gregarious and fun nature, always wanting to laugh. I remember visiting Shealagh in the 80’s - one of the B/T Charlies promptly jumped up on the kitchen table and lifted his leg on a beautifully arranged vase of flowers. She roared with laughter and told me that his father did exactly the same thing! Shealagh has left us a legacy of exquisite Cavaliers & Charlies and so her work in these two breeds will not be lost. Thankfully she is no longer suffering and is at peace. Thank you Shealagh for all you have done.

I am so very sad to learn about her death. It was earlier this year that we had so much fun when I went shopping at Atlantic Station, trying on shoes, having a laugh and enjoying a nice day before she judged in Atlanta. Condolences to Bill and her family and friends over there, she will be sorely missed in her personal life as well as the Cavalier World. She was an honest caring person with great wit. Maureen Miles
We haven't been as lucky as many. We have only known Shealagh about 7 years. She was a wickedly funny woman who was warm and full of hugs every time she saw either of us. Shealagh was a breeder that was at the top of her game. Shealagh's dogs and bitches were stunning and Shealagh stamped her mark on them not only in the Cavaliers but in the Charlies as well. Good-bye good lady we will miss you immensely. Ellen and Jamie Seidman

Another incredible lady taken from us way too soon. I am so saddened by this news, the loss of someone who was so very important to our cavaliers and charlies. She fought a brave battle with a terrible disease. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed. Sue Shidler (SevenWoods)
I feel I am one of the lucky ones here in the U.S. to have known Shealagh. We first met around 12 years ago. I have based the majority of breedings that I have done, as recently as a litter born just yesterday, on the Maibee dogs. My success has been due to the wonderful work for the Cavalier breed that Shealagh has accomplished. She will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to Bill and all of Shealagh's family and friends. Linda Kubin (Greyhawk)
I’m just so sad…thank you, Norma for your lovely tribute…we are grateful we got to spend time with her and her family and you and Gordon last March…we had some nice times, and appreciate the hospitality shared and the friendships made…Godspeed, Shealagh. Sue Miller (Cottfordcourt)
This is such sad, sad news ..... Shealagh was one of the kindest and loveliest people on this earth, and her contributions to our beloved breed have been incredibly wonderful. My heart goes out to Bill and the family in deepest sympathy and love. May God bless each of you during this time of grief and loss. She is gone from our sight, but never from or hearts, and her memory will live on forever in the love we had for her, and through the Maibee affix that is the legacy she is leaving behind. We will be forever grateful to her for her friendship and advice, and for our beautiful, healthy Cavaliers that come from her line. ♥ We grieve with you, and we miss her. In deepest sympathy and love. Melody Groos-Leonard, David Leonard and Genessa Groos. Covenant Cavaliers
I was very saddened to hear of Shealagh’s passing. Although I’ve known her more in the context of her Charlies than her Cavaliers, I always held her in the highest regard. She was always a great role model for me in her determination to breed good Charlies – with a sense of humor – not an easy task in this breed. The fact that her Cavaliers have done so well lately is no surprise to me. I only wish that I had been able to see them. I send Bill fond wishes. I am so sorry for your loss. Vanessa Weber (Kenjockety)
I was so very saddened to hear of Shealagh Water's passing. As the hospitality chairman for the Atlanta Cavalier show, I had the honor of hosting Shealagh and Bill when they were judging here last year. By the end of the weekend my husband and I had had enjoyed several great visits, laughed at some really funny stories, and felt we could call this wonderful couple our new friends. I imagine everyone who has spent 15 minutes with Shealagh and Bill has felt this way. Such a wonderful woman with such a joy of life, sense of humor, love of shopping and good stories, dogs and family, and a true treasure to the cavalier world. Shealagh, you will be truly missed, and Bill, we are sending our deepest sympathy and kind thoughts and hugs your way. God bless. Margie Roe and James Harper, Atlanta, GA
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Shealagh Waters. The CKCSC,USA has many fond memories of Shealagh both as a person, and as a Cavalier Judge. Today is a sad day, Shealagh was a true lady always a person that put everybody and all the dogs before her own wellbeing, always dedicated to the breeds she had close to her heart. What will we all do without her and her good advices. I was fortunate to have known such a great personality and to have dogs from her breeding. Shealagh please rest in peace and to Bill and the family we all send prayers to help you in the time of need. Eva Zachrisson Vallaren cavaliers
I strongly feel for Shealagh's family. For me, Shealagh was one of the Queens in the Cavalier and Charlie World, and I'm sending her family my condolences. She was one of my idols and I really looked up to her and the bright light she spreAd over her Cavaliers. She had like a magic hand when it came to bringing out the best in the breeding. She was magic to me, she will be missed. And in my window there is a light burning for her this evening. R.I.P Queen Shealagh. The dog world has lost another lovely lady and a great breeder. I remebmer the first time I meet Shealagh and it was a visit together with Norma & Gordon. Shealagh for me was a very loving person. Being in her home made you feel very welcome. After my first introduction she always took her time to talk with us every time we met. We always talked about her Charlies which I always have admired. She always wanted to convince Per that Charlies are the best.Shealagh will always remain in our hearts and the lovely Maibee’s will go on in our dogs pedigrees for a very long time. It is hard finding any words to express how sad I am. All my thoughts are with Bill, Wendy, Tanya, her family and friends in these hard times. Although I knew that she was critically ill, it knocks me out this morning to get the information that Shealagh passed away. It is almost a year ago when Shealagh judged in Dortmund and we – Shealagh, my mother and me - went on a shopping trip the next day searching for a special black bag for Shealagh for hours. Bill told me afterwards that this was probably her tenth! After dogs, it seemed to me that shopping was Shealagh's second passion. We had so much fun and I wish we should have the chance to repeat it again.
I was invited to stay at Shealaghs and Bills home for a few days and I was stunned what a brilliant cook Shealagh was. Her home - full of beautiful Cavaliers and Charlies – a dream came true to me and I will never forget this. Thank you Shealagh for being a friend and for all the lovely dogs you gave us – rest in peace.

I have not met Shealagh Waters but always admired her contribution to the Cavalier breed, which I am sure, will be poorer for her passing. Outstanding talent should not go unrecognized, and I am sure her contribution will carry long into
the future. Kind regards. Jane Logan.
I join with others who have remembered Shealagh's enormous contribution to our breed and express my deepest condolences to her family. The Cavalier world is a better place by far, for Shealagh having been amongst us. We shall miss her immeasurably.
A wonderful and knowledgable lady, not just with our Cavaliers, but with Charlies too. Both breeds are the better for having her involvement...........we are all the poorer for her leaving us. Sleep peacefully Shealagh Jenny Howden (Erinport)
Rest in Peace Shealagh .... the breed had lost one of the true "greats". I will always treasure the time I spent with Shealagh at her home, and also when her & Bill stayed with us on a visit to Australia. David McCullough (Caribelle)
My condolences to Shealagh’s family at this sad time . The Cavalier and Charlie world will miss her. Shealagh bred some lovely dogs and was a huge benefit to both those breeds. Christine Smith (Dabenville Cavaliers.)

We may only have only known Shealagh personally for about 2 years, but she was such a warm person. We were a great admirer of her Maibee lines. When we visited her for the first time we were welcomed in a friendly and warm home, staying for the rest of the day enjoying a fantastic lunch, like she could only make. At the Blenheim show we saw her and Bill again and we talked a lot while she prepared her dogs, while Bill always went ‘missing’. The second personal visit was to mate our bitch to Walter and again we stayed for a couple of days, even driving with her to the show Driffield. The weather was dreadful, but we really enjoyed the day. I remember Bill’s car being pulled out of the mud with a tractor. We were shocked to find out about her illness, given the fact we were there a couple of weeks earlier, in April 2011, for our third visit, planning a mating later this year. We already noticed that she was very tired , but Shealagh was a true lady and her hospitality enormous. We can’t believe how fast it all went. We feel privileged to have known her and she was the most wonderful credit to the breed. R.I.P. dear Shealagh, you will be sadly missed. Christophe and Raf, Bengal’s Cavaliers

How incredibly sad. I feel so priviledged to have spent that time with her & Bill last year, thanks to you & Gordon. Both Lynn & I thoroughly enjoyed their company and meeting their Cavaliers & Charlies at home. How sad for Bill, her family and indeed the Cavalier family world wide. Anne Dobie (Glengariff)
I was deeply saddened to read of the passing of Shealagh. Already the tributes are rightly flowing and even those who like me have only met Shealagh once are truly saddened. The Maibee kennel name is synonymous with quality and beauty in Cavaliers and Charlies due to Shealagh's hard work and dedication. My sincere condolences to Bill and her family and friends at their devastating loss - RIP Shealagh. Janine King Nidra Cavaliers
Remembering the good time is all that keeps us going at sad news like this. I still vivdidly remember when Shealag and Bill came to judge at our show. The most delightful people who endeared themselves to us all, discussing the merits of their respective cc winners. Shealagh was widely repsected for her knowledge as a breeder and her successes were very deresrved in the Cavalier and Charlie breeds which she loved. I remember being blown away on my visit to Maibee in the nineties by the fabulous Charlies , and the wonderfull hospitality shown by Shealagh and her family. My deepest sympathies to Bill and Shealaghs family and friends who will feel her loss deeply. Cherish the memories. RIP Shealagh. Dianne Tyssen Prestonville Cavaliers

Though knowing this day would come, it must still be wretching for Shealagh's family and friends. Our thoughts are with them as they reflect on their time with her. My brief interaction with Shealagh was an example of the sense of humour that people remember her for. With a wink while sitting near the ring at a show, Shealagh said she was watching Bill's judging to see if he would select the right dog for a particular award - the "right" dog meaning the one that she had selected the previous day. The Cavalier community will dearly miss her contributions as a breeder, a breed supporter and as a kind and caring person. Marianne Creary & Bob Johnston (Cempa)

I’ve never met Shealagh personally, but like the rest of the Cavalier world was saddened to hear of her passing. I’ve been involved with Cavaliers since 1993, breeding since 1997 and the Maibee kennel affix has appeared in many of my dogs pedigrees over the years. Everyone who has studied pedigrees knows the influential Maibee name. Shealagh is owed such a debt of gratitude from us all for her vision and for sharing her dogs with us, no matter where we live. Condolences to her family. Her name will live on. Peggy Wallace Burbrook Cavaliers

Such a great loss and so sad news. Although it was not given to me to know Shealagh personally, yet I met her through her beautiful dogs. Please accept from me the words of sympathy. Kind Regards, Danuta Dudek-Adamska. Aksmada's Cavaliers
I'm so very sorry today when I read this sad news. It is so hard to find words of comfort for the family after such a loss and difficult even to gather thoughts. I am plunged in deep sorrow. Although we were aware of Shealagh's ill health, it is hard to believe that she has left us. The world of Cavaliers lost a wonderful person and immensely talented breeder. I am honoured that I could get to know you personally and spend a few pleasant moments. Shealagh, you had a happy life, a wonderful family and friends, you created a wonderful, warm home and you bred plenty phenomenal Cavaliers and Charlies. I hope that you left calm and satisfied, but for sure you have had still many plans and many wonderful dogs to breed. I'm sure you will watch over the loved ones left behind here, people and dogs ... and carefully observe the shows... Now behind the rainbow bridge you can cuddle all of your beloved dogs who have gone before you. We will never forget. My thoughts are with you and your family. Rest in peace Shealagh. "I remember meeting Shealagh for the first time... for me it was like meeting a Rock Star! She was a legend, an icon and meeting her is a strong memory that will stay with me forever. I've never thought that two years later I will eat a dinner with Shealagh and Bill in their house. When we came to Maibee to mate our girl Hope with Sheelagh's beautiful Walter we instantly felt like a family members. You can't imagine how stressed I was going to the legendary Maibee kennel and it was just amazing how Shealagh, Bill, Wendy, Tanya and everybody at Maibee welcomed us and made us feel at home. One of the warmest people I've ever met! I can't say I knew Shealagh well and I'm overwhelmed by her loss...I can't imagine how Bill, Wendy, Andrew, Tanya and all Shealagh's friends must feel at this moment.
